Karl and Elsa bought Goedereede farm (registered as De Goree) in December 1994. Having worked in the chemical industry overseas and in Johannesburg at Sasol for many years, Karl and the family felt that it was time to redefine quality of life and accept a new challenge. Elsa started teaching again, at Robertson High School until end 2004, whilst our three sons , Stephan, Karl and Gerhard, all went to the University of Stellenbosch after matric. We are all nature lovers, outdoor people, keen photographers and passionate about sport. Going farming provided an ideal opportunity to marry all these interests.

The farm has seen dramatic changes since 1994. We started our B&B venture in 1996 and today have 4 private cottages that can accommodate 14 people. The farming activities have been significantly diversified, currently producing nearly 1000 tons of various fruits and vegetables per year. There are 10 families working and living on the farm. The farm is Eurepgap accredited. We are very sensitive to the environment and play an active part in Rooiberg Winery’s bio diversity drive and the Rooiberg Conservancy.

Karl serves on the Boards of Rooiberg Winery and the Breede River Bottling Co-operative and is actively involved in organised agriculture. Elsa plays a leading role in local tourism and is a keen quilter.

We are passionate about our guest farm and will go to any lengths to welcome and spoil our guests. Everyone gets a personal tour of the farm, explaining our operations, together with interesting anecdotes. If you have time, let Karl tell you about the family history that led to Johannes Pretorius leaving Holland for the Cape in 1666. All sparked by a remarkable incident that in many ways influenced the history of our country.

Our motto is to delight our customers, offering a real value for money destination. We invite you to come to Goedereede, confident that you will keep on returning!
